Over the past 25 years, Island Custom Cabinets has built more than exceptional cabinetry—it has earned a reputation as one of Vancouver Island's most dependable cabinet shops. That reputation was built by our founder, Jack VanDomselaar.

It seems that almost everyone we meet in the construction industry knows Jack, and they all say the same things: integrity, dependability, and quality. Those are values that shaped this company from the very beginning.

When Jack retired in 2025 to pursue his lifelong dream of ranching in Alberta, he passed the business to owners who had worked alongside him for many years. We're proud to carry his legacy forward, honour the reputation he built, and continue delivering the craftsmanship, reliability, and service that Island Custom Cabinets has always been known for.

Meet the New Owners

Hi, we're Mat Baker and Thom Tumack—the new guys steering the ship at Island Custom Cabinets.

We came up through small cabinet shops where "efficiency" meant hand-banding until your fingertips went numb and drilling holes one… painfully… slow… hole at a time. The work was rewarding, but growing a business felt like pushing a boulder uphill.

Then we discovered Island Custom Cabinets.

Instead of building every cabinet from scratch, we started sourcing precision-built components from ICC. It was a game changer. We could take on more work, spend more time with our customers, and finally enjoy the rarest luxury in construction—a coffee while it was still hot.

After years of working with Jack and relying on Island Custom Cabinets to help grow our own business, the opportunity came along to take the reins ourselves. It was an easy decision.

Today, we're proud to help other cabinet shops, contractors, designers, and builders do exactly what Island Custom did for us: increase capacity, maintain exceptional quality, and grow their business without adding unnecessary headaches.
